Predicting Chemical Reactivity Ions: ・Metals are elements that lend to lose their varance electrons relatively easily. ・If this happens, the atoms then has a net positive charge. ・Any atom with a net positive or negative charge on it is veferred to as an ion. ・In the case of the metals, they form positively charged ions. ・Positively charged ions are called cations. ・Negatively charged ions are called anions. ・This tends to be true for the non-metals. ・The further down in the periods you go, the more difficult it is to gain an electron do to the distance of the nucleus.
