Types of Chemical Reactions 1. Synthesis reactions -when smaller atoms and/or molecules combine to make larger ones. 2. Decomposition reactions -occur when larger molecules aplit into elements or smaller molecules. 3. Single displacement reactions -occur when on element replaces another in a compound. 4. Double displacement reactions -occur when element in two different compounds replace each other. 5.
